Description
Studio Libeskind, in collaboration with ELD (Atnwerp), unveils the architectural vision for the transformation of Antwerp’s legendary Boerentoren into a dynamic cultural landmark—the new home of The Phoebus Foundation’s world-class art collection in Europe.
The project reimagines the 1932 Art Deco tower as a public destination celebrating heritage, contemporary art, and sweeping views of the city. Upon completion, cultural programming will be curated by The Phoebus Foundation, transforming the former office tower into a vibrant hub of creativity and culture.
Inspired by the building’s layered history—from its Art Deco origins to the Brutalist additions of the 1970s—the design pays homage to the past while boldly defining a new era for one of Europe’s earliest skyscrapers. Including:a glass-and-steel crown offering observation decks with sweeping views of Antwerp;a public sculpture garden and restaurant overlooking the River Scheldt.; and a light-filled atrium and “Tower Living Room” for exhibitions and events. Working closely with the Flemish Heritage Agency and the City of Antwerp, the design preserves the building’s historic structure while opening it to the public for the first time.
The revitalized Boerentoren will stand as a symbol of renewal, blending art, architecture, and accessibility at the heart of Antwerp.
